negligence is an act of not taking care of something the way it would be taken care of by any other reasonable person under the same circumstances. Both negligence and malpractice are acts that healthcare workers can be charged with in a court of law. The case being analyzed involved liability issues with the nursing staff as well as the hospital. The case shows a lack of documentation regarding the patient’s assessment, the incident’s details, IV site condition and infiltration, as well as proper follow up after incident’s occurrence. Second, the infusion pumps were newly introduced to the unit and there is no documentation about proper training to nursing staff. Last, Betty DePalma, RN supervisor failed to tag the pump that was used with Mrs. Pinnelas and she failed to report maintenance that the pump could be malfunctioning.
